Demo Mode shows a fictional family (Maya, Hannah, Theo and Leo) and needs no account. Changes you make in Demo Mode are stored only in your browser’s local storage until you use Reset demo in Settings or clear this site’s browser storage.

To set up your own family you create an InStep account with an email address and password, or with Google. InStep’s sign-in service keeps your email address and sign-in details so you can log in and reset your password.

For a signed-in family, InStep stores in its cloud database: your first name, each child’s first name, year group and school sector, and the school information you confirm with “Add to InStep” — the extracted details, dates, actions, which actions you have ticked and short excerpts. Original letters, files and pasted text are not kept.

Only adults who belong to the family can read it. If you share access with one other parent or carer, they can see and add to the same family information. The family owner can remove their access, and they can leave at any time.

Calendar files are created in your browser and are only downloaded if you choose to.

Ask InStep sends your question, the selected child’s year group and sector, and their saved school information to InStep’s server-side processing. The relevant context is then sent through the Lovable AI Gateway to an AI model to produce the answer.

School Information sends the text you add and the selected child’s year group and sector through the same server-side AI processing to extract relevant information. Nothing is saved until you review it and choose “Add to InStep”.

If you choose Help me prepare, the selected child’s profile and that one item of saved school information are sent through the same processing to suggest questions; the suggestions are not stored.

If you upload a PDF, screenshot or photo, it is sent once through server-side AI processing to read its text. InStep does not store the file; only text you review and choose to use is processed as school information.

The site is hosted on Lovable’s platform, which may process standard technical information needed to serve and secure the site, such as request logs, device or browser information, or IP-derived technical data.

Questions, pasted drafts and generated answers are not saved as family records. Your family information stays until you remove it. In Settings you can remove a single school item, remove a child, delete the whole family (your login is kept) or delete your account, which removes your family information and your login.

InStep’s AI processing code does not log submitted questions, pasted text or AI responses. Hosting, database and AI services may keep technical logs or backups under their own policies; those retention periods have not yet been confirmed, and deleting information in InStep may not immediately remove it from such logs or backups.

InStep has not added analytics, marketing tracking or advertising cookies. It uses browser storage to keep you signed in, remember the current mode and child, and hold Demo Mode changes. If browser storage is unavailable, Demo Mode changes are kept only in memory and may be lost when you leave or refresh.

A contact route has not yet been set up. Until then, you can view, remove or delete your information yourself from Settings as described above.
